Norm Johnston of Edmonton has transformed his weekly lottery routine into a life-changing fortune, becoming one of Alberta's newest millionaires with a $2-million win on the Western 6/49 draw.
A Ritual That Paid Off
Every Wednesday and Saturday evening, Johnston would settle onto his couch with a cup of coffee and check the lottery numbers on the Western Canada Lottery Corporation website. This habitual practice, which he describes as a mix of routine and superstition, culminated in a massive jackpot win on January 28th.
"I told my daughter right away," Johnston shared in a news release. "She asked me why I was getting her out of bed so late."
Plans for the Prize
The excitement of the win is still settling in for Johnston, who is thoughtfully considering how to utilize his newfound wealth. While he is taking his time with decisions, certain priorities have already emerged.
Travel and family visits are high on his list. "I might do some travel eventually and visit family in Ontario," he stated. As an enthusiastic angler, Johnston also envisions combining travel with his passion. "I'm a big-time fisherman, so I'd love to travel and do some fishing too."
Enhancing His Favorite Pastime
Johnston's plans extend to upgrading his fishing experiences closer to home. He hinted at significant investments in his hobby, which could make his fishing excursions even more enjoyable.
"We might upgrade the ice fishing shack," Johnston revealed. "And, I was thinking about getting a place near the lakes I like to fish here."
For now, Johnston is savoring the moment and the possibilities that his $2-million win has unlocked. While future fishing trips are certainly in the works, he is currently basking in the thrill of his unexpected windfall.
