Windsor Apartment Fire on Mill Street Prompts Major Response

A significant fire at a multi-storey apartment building in Windsor's west end prompted a major emergency response on Tuesday morning, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky.

Emergency Crews Rush to Mill Street

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services were dispatched to the scene in the 600 block of Mill Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. Upon arrival, crews reported light smoke visible from the sixth floor of the residential structure. Initial assessments found smoke in the hallway of the affected level.

Response Escalates as Fire Grows

The situation escalated minutes after the first crews arrived, necessitating an upgrade in the response. In total, thirty firefighters were mobilized to combat the blaze. They were joined by personnel from Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services and Windsor police to secure the area and assist residents.

Firefighters confirmed the fire was located on the building's sixth floor. As part of their strategy, crews also conducted searches on the seventh floor to check for any extension of fire or smoke damage.

Fire Declared Under Control

Roughly half an hour after the initial call, officials provided an update via social media. They stated the fire was under control. A primary search of the unit where the fire originated was completed and confirmed to be all clear, indicating no occupants were found in immediate danger within that specific apartment.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and damage assessments are ongoing. The coordinated effort between fire, police, and paramedic services ensured the incident was managed without reported injuries at this stage.
