A tragic incident in rural eastern Ontario has claimed the life of a young child. A five-year-old died over the weekend after the all-terrain vehicle they were operating crashed into a tree.

Emergency Response to Private Property

The fatal collision occurred on Saturday, January 12, 2026, at a private property within Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan (BLR) Township. Authorities were alerted just after 11 a.m.

Officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, Renfrew County paramedics, and firefighters from the BLR Fire Department all rushed to the scene. The crash involved a single vehicle, described as a tracked ATV.

Helmet Worn, Injuries Fatal

Police confirmed that the five-year-old child was the lone operator of the ATV at the time of the crash. Investigators noted that the child was wearing a helmet when the vehicle struck the tree.

Despite immediate medical attention, the child's injuries were severe. After initial treatment at a local hospital, the patient was transferred by air ambulance to a regional trauma centre. Tragically, the child succumbed to their injuries.

Investigation Continues

The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP has opened a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fatal ATV accident. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled as part of the ongoing inquiry.
