Gardeners eager to dig in the soil, enjoy the sunshine, and plant new blooms will have their chance at Windsor's annual spring perennial plant sale and fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at the city's Jackson Park greenhouse complex.
Event Details and Plant Offerings
The greenhouses are bursting with a wide variety of plants, including hybrid Nell Martin rose bushes, numerous types of perennials, a diverse selection of grasses, herbs, shrubs, and a small assortment of trees. Additionally, shoppers can find tomato varieties, peppers, basil, rosemary, daylilies, hostas, peonies, yucca, rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, and lavender plants.
This year, following feedback from the community, cannas will make a return, and dahlias will be offered for the first time. City parks, recreation, and facilities volunteers will be on hand to assist shoppers, helping both novice and master gardeners choose from more than 100 plant varieties.
History and Location
The annual gardening event moved to its current location at Jackson Park in May 2023, after the city closed its former greenhouse facility at Lanspeary Park. The sale attracts hundreds of gardening enthusiasts searching for the perfect perennial or vegetable plant for their gardens.
The 29th annual Paul Martin Garden Perennial Plant Sale will proceed rain or shine, with gates opening at 8 a.m. and the sale continuing until 2 p.m. Purchases can be made with cash, credit, or debit.
Support for Historic Gardens
Proceeds from the plant sale support the historic Paul Martin Gardens at Walkerville's Willistead Manor and Park. The city's greenhouse complex is located at 2449 McDougall Street.
