In a significant development for the electric powersports sector, Turntide Technologies has announced that its high-performance, automotive-grade inverter is now powering the electric motorcycles from startup Dust Moto. The successful integration, which gave Dust Moto full control over its powertrain system, was completed in a rapid eight-week timeframe.
Overcoming Technical Hurdles with Proven Technology
Dust Moto, a U.S.-based electric motorcycle pioneer aiming for production in 2026, faced considerable challenges in sourcing a suitable inverter for its compact, high-torque bikes. Existing solutions were often unreliable, not scalable, or required excessive customization. The company turned to Turntide's Gen 6 Inverter, citing its proven track record, peak performance, and the flexibility needed for their demanding application.
"Finding the right inverter technology to meet the demanding performance requirements for our motorcycle was no small feat, but critical to our customer mission," stated Colin Godby, CEO of Dust Moto. "Turntide’s inverter ticked the right boxes and the company’s collaborative engineering helped us achieve rapid integration success."
A Collaborative Engineering Breakthrough
The core of the achievement lies in the close partnership between the engineering teams. Dust Moto leveraged Turntide's unique user code capability, which allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to write tailored control logic in the C programming language. This enabled Dust Moto to become the first partner to independently develop and implement a customized inverter integration.
Using this tool, the team established seamless communication and full-system control between the motorcycle's battery, the Turntide inverter, and the bike's main interface. This complex task, crucial for vehicle performance and safety, was accomplished in the remarkably short span of two months.
Meeting the Demands of a Fast-Moving Market
Steve Hornyak, CEO of Turntide, emphasized that the partnership exemplifies how his company supports innovators pushing the boundaries of electric performance. "Dust Moto and other companies that are pushing the limits of what is possible in electrical performance need partners who can keep pace," said Hornyak. "Turntide’s ability to rapidly iterate and integrate advanced powertrain solutions demonstrates how we are meeting the challenging performance demands of electric and hybrid markets."
Turntide Technologies, with operations in North America, the U.K., and India, designs and manufactures axial flux motors, power electronics, and energy storage systems for transportation sectors including off-highway, commercial vehicles, and powersports. This collaboration with Dust Moto highlights the growing sophistication and speed of development in the electric vehicle ecosystem, particularly for niche, high-performance applications.
