ECD Automotive Design Unveils Project Inizio: Modernizing Classic Series III Land Rovers
Project Inizio Modernizes Classic Land Rover Series III

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — In a move that bridges automotive heritage with contemporary performance, ECD Automotive Design has unveiled its latest showcase vehicle, Project Inizio. Announced on December 23, 2025, the project demonstrates the company's expertise in transforming iconic classic vehicles into modern, daily-drivable machines without sacrificing their original soul.

Blending Heritage with Modern Engineering

Project Inizio is based on a Land Rover Series III – 88 Soft Top, a platform celebrated for its mechanical simplicity and utilitarian design. Rather than creating a period-correct restoration, ECD's vision was to reimagine the classic for the 21st century. The goal was to enhance performance, reliability, and usability while meticulously preserving the vehicle's elemental character and unmistakable silhouette.

The company retained signature Series features beloved by enthusiasts, including the upright windscreen, compact wheelbase, galvanized detailing, and the flexibility for a soft-top or hard-top configuration. This ensures the vehicle's vintage charm remains immediately recognizable.

Under the Hood: A Contemporary Powerplant

The most significant transformation lies beneath the classic bodywork. ECD engineers installed a GM 6.2L LS3 V8 engine, paired with a GM Auto Sport 6-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain swap provides smooth, dependable, and substantial power, addressing a common critique of original Series vehicles while maintaining an authentic driving feel.

To support the increased performance and ensure safety, the build includes a comprehensive suite of upgrades. These consist of upgraded heavy-duty axles, high-performance EBC FAST brakes, and a Borla stainless steel exhaust system. The suspension has been modernized with an ECD Air Ride system, improving both road manners and comfort.

A Statement on Craftsmanship and Vision

Scott Wallace, CEO and Co-Founder of ECD Automotive Design, emphasized the philosophy behind Project Inizio. "Project Inizio represents something ECD does best, respecting the legacy while thoughtfully enhancing every touchpoint," Wallace stated. "It’s a Series III built to be driven, enjoyed, and appreciated for decades to come."

The interior and exterior details reflect this thoughtful approach. The vehicle is finished in Land Rover Mid Grey and sits on black 16-inch OEM-style steel wheels with BFG All-Terrain tires. Inside, the cabin features a Puma dashboard wrapped in tan leather, complemented by bucket seats upholstered in Garrett Avion Caramel and Coal leather with vertical fluted stitching.

Modern amenities seamlessly integrated into the classic layout include:

  • A Halo-style touchscreen stereo with Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay
  • Pioneer speakers and subwoofer
  • Dakota Digital VHX-1018 gauges
  • A backup camera, remote locking, alarm, and remote start

Project Inizio serves as a powerful testament to ECD's core mission: honoring automotive heritage through expert craftsmanship and innovative engineering. It proves that a beloved classic like the Land Rover Series III can be thoughtfully updated to meet modern expectations, ensuring its relevance and enjoyment for a new generation of drivers and collectors.
