A family living in Calgary's Chaparral neighborhood will be out of their home for some time after a fire broke out in the early morning hours of July 10, 2026.
Fire Details
The fire was reported around 3:00 a.m. in the 100 block of Chaparral Valley Circle S.E. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes, but the home sustained significant damage, particularly in the basement and garage area.
No injuries were reported. The family of four, including two young children, escaped safely. They are being assisted by the Calgary Emergency Management Agency and are staying with relatives.
Cause and Investigation
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but early indications suggest it may have been accidental, possibly related to an electrical issue. The fire marshal is on scene to determine the exact cause.
According to Calgary Fire Department officials, the fire caused an estimated $400,000 in damage. The home is uninhabitable until repairs are made.
Community Response
Neighbors reported hearing popping sounds and seeing flames before firefighters arrived. One neighbor said, “We saw the glow and knew something was wrong. We’re just glad everyone got out okay.”
The family has lived in the home for five years. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with immediate needs.
