A routine call for assistance on Prince Edward Island took a dramatic turn when a driver and passenger who stopped to help a vehicle were arrested for impaired driving and drug trafficking, according to the RCMP.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on June 16, 2026, when RCMP officers responded to a report of a vehicle in distress. Upon arrival, they found two individuals who had come to the aid of the stranded motorist. However, further investigation revealed that both the driver and passenger were under the influence of alcohol and in possession of illegal drugs.

Police conducted sobriety tests on the driver, which indicated impairment. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of drugs believed to be intended for trafficking. Both individuals were taken into custody without incident.

Charges Laid

The driver faces charges of impaired driving and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. The passenger has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Their names have not been released pending a court appearance.
