Costco has issued a recall for a popular brand of milk sold across Canada due to a potential food safety risk. The recall affects Lactantia UltraPur 2% 20g Protein & Lactose Free Milk in 2-litre cartons, identified by item number 1987085.
According to a notice on Costco's website, the milk is being recalled because of "observed over-fortification of Vitamin A and D compared to the recommended daily intake limit," which could pose a safety hazard. The recall was voluntarily initiated by manufacturer Lactalis Canada.
The affected product has an expiry date of June 22, 2026, and was purchased between May and June 2026 at Costco warehouses or Costco Business Centres. Customers are advised not to consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the milk. Lactalis suggests consulting a doctor if any symptoms arise or if there are concerns.
Importantly, the recall is limited to this specific milk product and lot; all other Lactantia Ultrapur items are unaffected. Consumers can return the milk to any Costco location for a full refund.
This recall follows a series of recent product recalls by Costco, including a Zwilling electric kettle with a handle that may loosen or break, posing scalding risks; Kirkland women's vitamin tablets found to contain a metal object; and a shampoo and conditioner set causing mild skin irritation in some users.
