Calgary man charged in Cochrane child-luring probe

A 29-year-old Calgary man has been arrested and charged following a Cochrane RCMP investigation into a child-luring complaint. Allan (AJ) Rain faces multiple charges, including luring a child and possessing child sexual abuse material.

Investigation launched after parent report

The investigation began in May, according to a news release, after Cochrane’s RCMP detachment received a report from a concerned parent. The parent reported that their child had been sharing intimate images with an unknown person online.

“A search of the child’s devices yielded the phone number and social media accounts being used by the suspect,” the release stated.

Further investigation allowed police to identify the suspect. On Wednesday, Cochrane RCMP officers, in partnership with the Calgary Police Service’s tactical team, executed a search warrant at a Calgary residence.

Arrest and charges

Rain was arrested at the residence and subsequently charged. He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Calgary on Friday.

“Cochrane RCMP remains committed to protecting the children of our community,” the release stated. Police encourage anyone with information about child exploitation offences to contact Cochrane RCMP at 403-932-2211.
