Hasan Piker Jokes About Affair with McConnell for Health Answers

Progressive political streamer Hasan Piker devised an unconventional strategy to extract information about Sen. Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) health amid persistent rumors that the 84-year-old may be in critical condition following a hospitalization last month.

Piker's Taunt on Twitch

During Wednesday's edition of his daily Twitch stream, Piker, who has recently become a fixation for conservative media, attempted to bait the senator into breaking his silence by claiming they were engaged in a torrid affair. Riffing on current news, Piker joked that he knows McConnell is alive and well because he “was sexting him last night” and “can’t wait to go to D.C. and see him.”

“Go ahead, Mitch. Deny the relationship if you can,” he goaded. “Oh really, you got a problem? Deny it. He can’t. He’s shy.”

McConnell's Disappearance and Health Concerns

McConnell has not been seen publicly since June 14, when 911 was called to respond to an “unconscious person” believed to have suffered a heart attack at the senator's Washington, D.C., home. Audio from the dispatch, released on July 1, does not name McConnell directly but includes a medic stating “CPR in progress” before additional medical personnel arrived. The senator's office has released few details on his current health status.

McConnell, who plans to end his four-decade Senate career when his term concludes in January, has experienced multiple health issues in recent years. He was hospitalized in March 2023 after a concussion from a serious fall and again in February 2024 with flu-like symptoms. Recently, he has been seen using a wheelchair intermittently during Capitol visits.

Piker Challenges Jennings' Account

Piker's inquiries extended beyond his livestream. In a Tuesday X post, he called BS on CNN contributor Scott Jennings' claim of a phone conversation with the senator as he recovers in hospital care. Jennings' account mirrored stories from other prominent Republicans, all describing 20-minute conversations with McConnell covering Iran and the Democratic Party's crisis over ex-Senate candidate Graham Platner.

Broader Calls for Transparency

Piker is not alone in demanding answers. On Wednesday, Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear sent a letter pleading for “transparency” from McConnell's camp, stating that citizens of the Bluegrass State are “increasingly concerned” about his well-being and ability to hold office. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Wednesday that he has “no idea” how McConnell is doing.
