Crop Duster Crash Near Beaubier Leaves Pilot Seriously Injured

A pilot is recovering in hospital after a crop duster crash near Beaubier, Saskatchewan, on July 8. Evan Hansen, a local farmer and pilot, sustained serious injuries when his aircraft went down in a field approximately 20 kilometres south of Weyburn.

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after the crash. Hansen was airlifted to a Regina hospital for treatment. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

Community Rallies to Support Injured Pilot

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Hansen and his wife Annika during his recovery. The fundraiser aims to cover medical expenses and lost income while Hansen is unable to work.

“Evan is a dedicated farmer and pilot who has always been there for his community,” the campaign page states. “Now it’s our turn to support him and his family.”

Hansen’s family has requested privacy as he undergoes treatment. No further updates on his condition have been released.

Agricultural Aviation Risks

Crop dusting is a critical but hazardous part of modern agriculture, involving low-altitude flights and precise manoeuvring. According to the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association, there were an average of 10 crop duster accidents per year in Canada over the past decade, with roughly one-third resulting in serious injury or fatality.

Local farmers have expressed concern over the incident, noting that the loss of a crop duster during the growing season can impact pest control and crop yields. “It’s a tough time of year to have this happen,” said neighbour and fellow farmer John Peters. “We’re all hoping for a full recovery.”
