Maya Gebala Leaves Hospital for Botanical Garden Day Trip
Maya Gebala Enjoys Day Out at Botanical Garden

Maya Gebala, the 12-year-old survivor of the Tumbler Ridge shooting, has reached a significant milestone in her recovery. Over the weekend, she was able to leave B.C. Children's Hospital for a day trip to Bloedel Conservatory, a botanical garden in Vancouver.

Family Shares Joyful Update

Maya's father, David Gebala, posted on Facebook on Saturday, sharing photos of Maya at the conservatory. 'This is the farthest we've been from the hospital with Maya in quite some time. It feels really good to step away, even if it's just for a little while,' he wrote.

Maya's mother, Cia Edmonds, reshared a video from the outing, captioning it: 'Now that we can leave hospital grounds, she gets to experience life again.'

Continued Progress

The trip follows a series of positive updates from Maya's parents. On Friday, David posted photos of Maya smiling in her wheelchair in a sunny parking lot, noting, 'Look who gets to leave the hospital grounds! Many more walks to come with this amazing weather.'

On Sunday, David shared a video of Maya pushing an elevator button at the hospital. He wrote: 'Mornings are my favorite with Maya. She's wide awake, bright-eyed, and so wonderfully responsive. I'm still in awe of how much she's improved over the past few months especially just this week alone. I love you so much, my sweet baby girl.'

The family's social media updates have provided hope to many following Maya's journey since the tragic shooting in Tumbler Ridge.
