CBS Reporter's Live Shot Derailed by Knicks Fan's Expletive After Title Win
A reporter for CBS New York encountered an unexpected challenge during a live broadcast Saturday night when an overzealous fan celebrated the New York Knicks' NBA championship with a profane outburst. Adi Guajardo was conducting a remote segment at a watch party in Manhattan's Radio City, capturing reactions after the Knicks' clinching victory over the San Antonio Spurs, when the enthusiastic reveler chimed in with an expletive-laden declaration.
“We did it, we just did it, the Knicks fucking won!” the fan shouted, prompting Guajardo to try to silence the person by briefly placing her hand over their mouth. She then sheepishly apologized for the action. “Oh no, no, no, stop,” she said. “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh,” she added as she turned away and wiped her brow.
The incident drew immediate commentary from the studio. “This is the danger of live TV,” one voice interjected, followed by another stating, “You can’t control live television.” Guajardo quickly bumped the broadcast back to the studio, saying, “we get this under control.”
“One of those nights where people are just kind of forgetting how to hold some kind of decorum,” a studio voice remarked. While the expletive may have rattled the local news crew, it was relatively minor compared to the broader mayhem and violence that marred the celebratory atmosphere in New York City. Firefighters were called to extinguish a fire on a school bus on West 42nd Street in Manhattan after Knicks fans set it ablaze following the team's victory over the Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals on June 13, 2026.
