A popular Calgary nightclub and a Dairy Queen in Willow Park have both reopened this week following closures last week after provincial health inspectors discovered numerous sanitary violations at both locations.
Fire N Ice Reopens After Resolving Basement Issues
Fire N Ice, located at 854 16 Ave S.W., shared a post on Instagram on Saturday, April 25, stating that all issues noted in an inspection report two weeks ago were resolved. The issues were related to the basement-level floor and washrooms, which have not been open to the public for over two years. The post explained that the area was used strictly for storage during that time. The business was unaware that, as part of licensing requirements, this space must be maintained in a condition ready for customer use. Consequently, it was not regularly accessed or maintained. However, all issues have now been resolved accordingly.
Detailed Health Violations
The inspection report, dated April 10, detailed 16 health code violations that ranged from a cockroach infestation, peeling wallpaper, and unfinished or damaged surfaces, to dirty washrooms and accumulation of grease and food debris on surfaces. The business shared that three independent and licensed pest control professionals were retained and attached the inspection reports to the post for full transparency.
Dairy Queen in Willow Park Also Reopens
A Dairy Queen in Willow Park at 9919 Fairmount Dr. S.E. also reopened after being closed last week when health inspectors found mice feces, mice nests, and holes in surfaces. Last week, a notice of closure had been posted to the front door of the business, attributing the closure to a hot water outage. The Calgary Herald called a number listed for the business for comment on Tuesday and did not receive a response.
