Philips Rembra Platform Receives FDA 510(k) Clearance for Advanced CT Imaging
Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, has announced that it has obtained 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Rembra platform of scanning systems. This regulatory milestone includes the Rembra CT, Rembra RT, and Areta RT systems, which are engineered to enhance speed, efficiency, and access to high-quality computed tomography imaging across various healthcare settings.
Addressing Growing Demand in Healthcare Imaging
The newly cleared systems are specifically designed to help healthcare providers respond to the escalating demand for imaging and radiation therapy planning. As imaging volumes and clinical complexity continue to rise, there is a pressing need for solutions that improve workflow efficiency while maintaining confidence in clinical decisions. The Rembra platform aims to meet these challenges by offering advanced capabilities that support both diagnostic radiology and radiation therapy.
Dan Xu, Business Leader of CT at Philips, emphasized the importance of this development: "As healthcare systems manage increasing demand and complexity, imaging plays a critical role in enabling timely and informed clinical decisions. With the Rembra platform, we are redefining what clinicians can expect from CT, combining speed, scalability, and precision to expand access to high-quality imaging while supporting confident diagnosis and highly accurate treatment planning."
Key Features of the Rembra Platform
The Rembra CT system is purpose-built for frontline care environments, featuring the largest-in-class 85 cm bore. This design enables ultra-fast, high-throughput imaging, supporting up to 270 exams per day in demanding clinical settings such as emergency departments, critical care units, and interventional suites. Its advanced acquisition and reconstruction capabilities facilitate rapid, high-quality imaging at scale, allowing clinicians to make timely decisions in critical situations without compromising diagnostic confidence.
For radiation therapy, the Rembra RT and Areta RT systems bring similar performance advantages, with a focus on precision. These systems offer a wide 85 cm extended field of view and next-generation 4DCT imaging capabilities, which support more accurate tumor targeting while helping to protect healthy tissue. By streamlining simulation and planning workflows, they reduce variability and improve efficiency, thereby enabling more precise and personalized cancer care.
Unified Ecosystem for Comprehensive Care
Together, the Rembra platform creates a unified, high-performance CT ecosystem that spans the entire care continuum—from urgent diagnosis to precision-guided therapy. It empowers healthcare providers to manage increasing demand with greater speed, consistency, and confidence, while fostering more connected and efficient care delivery. This expansion of access to faster and more precise CT imaging is expected to have significant implications for both frontline care and cancer treatment planning, ultimately improving patient outcomes and operational effectiveness in healthcare facilities worldwide.
