A 28-year-old Calgary man has been charged in connection with a human trafficking investigation led by the Regina Police Service (RPS). The investigation, dubbed Project Anchor, spanned six months and uncovered evidence that a woman was trafficked in Regina and other parts of western Canada.
Charges and Investigation
Abdoulaye Gadjiko faces multiple charges, including human trafficking, material benefit from trafficking, procuring sexual services, material benefit from sexual services, advertising sexual services, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, money laundering, and failure to comply with a court order. The charges stem from alleged crimes that occurred between December 2023 and November 2025.
The investigation began in December 2025 when RPS received information about a female victim being trafficked in the sex trade. Investigators determined that the victim had been trafficked throughout western Canada, including in Regina.
Multi-Agency Effort
Project Anchor involved collaboration between the RPS vice unit, Calgary Police Service, and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) human trafficking enforcement unit. Over 30 officers from the two Alberta agencies participated in the arrest and subsequent searches of four residences, one business, and one vehicle, all located in Calgary. The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) also contributed to the investigation.
Gadjiko was arrested on May 20 and was scheduled to make his first court appearance in Regina provincial court on Wednesday.
Statement from Police
Deputy Chief Laurel Marshall emphasized the complexity of such investigations. She stated, "First and foremost, it's about ensuring victims are safe and helping them break free from their traffickers. I am proud of the work being done by everyone involved in Project Anchor."
Authorities urge anyone with information related to this investigation to contact their local police service.
