Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm watch advisories for Ottawa and Gatineau. The notices, posted at 5:54 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, indicate that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail.
Potential Hazards
Wind gusts could reach up to 90 km/h, and hail may be as large as two-dollar coins, according to the advisory. The thunderstorm watch is expected to end later in the evening.
Safety Precautions
Officials warn that local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches, or soft shelters may occur. There is also a risk of injury. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
