Residents across the Maritimes are waking up to another day of chilly and damp conditions, as a stubborn weather pattern remains locked in place. According to meteorologist Kalin Mitchell, the region will continue to experience cool temperatures and moisture-laden air through Friday, but a change may be on the way.
Mitchell explains that a low-pressure system lingering off the coast is responsible for the persistent cloud cover and periodic showers. Daytime highs are expected to stay several degrees below seasonal norms, with many areas struggling to reach the mid-teens Celsius. The dampness will make it feel even cooler, prompting many to keep jackets and umbrellas handy.
When Will It Change?
The good news, Mitchell says, is that the pattern is expected to shift by the weekend. A ridge of high pressure building from the west will gradually push the low-pressure system eastward, allowing for drier and warmer air to move in. By Saturday afternoon, skies should begin to clear, and Sunday is shaping up to be a much more pleasant day, with sunshine and temperatures climbing back to near seasonal averages.
In the meantime, Mitchell advises residents to dress warmly and be prepared for intermittent rain, especially in coastal areas where sea breezes will keep conditions particularly raw. The damp weather may also lead to reduced visibility in fog-prone regions, so drivers are urged to exercise caution.
Looking ahead, the long-range forecast suggests a warming trend early next week, with the possibility of summer-like conditions by midweek. But for now, patience is key as the Maritimes endure one last round of unseasonable chill.
