Ontario Extends Alcohol Last Call to 4 AM for World Cup

The Ontario government has announced a temporary extension of last call for alcohol to 4 a.m. during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The measure will be in effect from June 11 to July 19, aiming to support local businesses, hospitality workers, and fans attending the global soccer tournament, which partially takes place in Toronto.

Supporting Businesses and Fans

Attorney General Doug Downey stated that allowing restaurants and bars to stay open later will enable fans to fully experience the tournament's energy and excitement while boosting local economies. The extension is expected to strengthen jobs and drive economic growth across Ontario.

This year's World Cup is the first to feature 48 teams, with games played across three countries: Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Toronto will host six matches at BMO Field, referred to as Toronto Stadium during the event. Vancouver will also host games, along with 14 other host cities in the U.S. and Mexico.

Boosting Tourism

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Stan Cho emphasized that the extended last call will help Ontario deliver a safe and welcoming experience for international visitors. The typical last call in Ontario is 2 a.m. Similar extensions were implemented during previous major sporting events, such as the 2026 Olympic gold medal hockey game between Canada and the United States.

LCBO Extended Hours

The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) will also extend store hours at 27 select retail locations in the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa from June 11 to July 19. These stores will operate Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This initiative aims to accommodate the influx of fans and enhance the overall World Cup experience in Ontario.
