Hundreds of properties are under evacuation orders as the Brunswick Creek wildfire near Boston Bar, British Columbia, continues to expand rapidly, the BC Wildfire Service reported on July 8, 2026.
Evacuation Orders and Fire Growth
The wildfire, which ignited earlier this week, has grown significantly, prompting officials to order evacuations for hundreds of homes in the area. The BC Wildfire Service said the blaze has been fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, making containment efforts challenging.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire had burned through an estimated 1,500 hectares of forestland, with no containment reported. Firefighters are working to establish control lines, but the unpredictable weather has hampered progress.
Community Impact
Local authorities have set up emergency reception centers for displaced residents. The Regional District of Fraser Valley declared a state of local emergency to facilitate resource deployment. Evacuation alerts remain in effect for additional properties, and residents are advised to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice.
“We are monitoring the situation closely and urge everyone in the affected areas to follow evacuation orders immediately,” said a spokesperson for the BC Wildfire Service. “The safety of residents and firefighters is our top priority.”
Firefighting Efforts
More than 100 firefighters, supported by helicopters and air tankers, are battling the blaze. Ground crews are focusing on protecting structures and creating firebreaks. The BC Wildfire Service has also deployed additional resources from neighboring regions.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials suspect it may be human-caused. The public is reminded to adhere to fire bans and restrictions in place across the province.
