Service Disruption on O-Train Line 1
OC Transpo reported Friday that unexplained damage to the overhead power line on O-Train Line 1 is causing service disruptions. The damage was discovered during an overnight inspection east of uOttawa Station, affecting train operations on the line.
Details of the Damage
Transit Services Associate General Manager Troy Charter stated, “Damage was discovered on the overhead catenary wires east of uOttawa Station during an overnight inspection. As a result, trains will need to bypass the section on one track.” The damaged wires are critical for supplying power to the trains.
Current Service Status
Line 1 service is running between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations, but trains are limited to using westbound platforms at uOttawa, Lees, and Hurdman stations. Charter noted that Line 1 trains are operating every eight minutes. To mitigate the impact, E1 bus service is enhanced from Blair to downtown, and R1 bus service is available from Tunney’s Pasture to Rideau station during the morning peak.
Repair Efforts and Customer Support
“Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) teams are onsite to assess the damage and determine a repair and service restoration plan,” Charter said. There is no immediate estimate for when repairs will be completed. Staff will be at stations throughout the day to assist customers, and passengers are advised to check social media, text updates, and the OC Transpo website for the latest information.
Impact on Commuters
The disruption affects thousands of daily commuters who rely on Line 1 for travel across the city. OC Transpo urges passengers to plan for extra travel time and consider alternative routes. The agency continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as repairs progress.
