Ottawa will see more rain and thunderstorms in the coming days, Environment Canada said in its latest forecast. The unsettled weather follows a rainy spring and could bring localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Rainfall and Thunderstorm Details
The forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms throughout the week, with the highest probability on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rainfall amounts could reach 20 to 30 millimeters in some areas, with isolated storms producing heavier downpours.
Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimbell said the pattern is typical for late June. “We’re in a humid air mass, and that’s fueling these thunderstorms,” Kimbell said. “People should be aware of possible lightning and gusty winds.”
Impact on Residents and Commuters
Ottawa residents are advised to carry umbrellas and allow extra travel time. The rain may cause ponding on roads and reduced visibility. The city’s drainage systems are expected to handle the volume, but localized flooding remains a risk.
Commuters using the O-Train should check for delays, as previous weather events have caused service interruptions. The city reminds drivers to avoid flooded areas and never drive through standing water.
Looking Ahead
The wet pattern is expected to continue into the weekend, with a chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will remain near seasonal averages, around 22°C to 25°C.
Environment Canada will update the forecast as needed, and residents can monitor alerts through the agency’s website or mobile app.
