A dead humpback whale has been brought to shore in Denmark, and a necropsy is set to take place next week to investigate the cause of death. The whale was found floating in waters near the Danish coast and was towed to a beach for examination.

The whale, an adult humpback measuring approximately 12 meters in length, was first spotted by local fishermen on Thursday. Authorities were alerted, and a team from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, along with marine biologists, coordinated the effort to bring the carcass ashore. The operation was completed on Friday morning.
Necropsy Planned
A full necropsy is scheduled for early next week at the University of Copenhagen. Scientists hope to determine whether the whale died from natural causes, disease, or human-related factors such as ship strike or entanglement in fishing gear. Tissue samples will be collected for further analysis.
Marine experts emphasize that humpback whales are not common in Danish waters, making this stranding unusual. The species typically migrates between feeding grounds in the North Atlantic and breeding areas in the Caribbean.

Local authorities have cordoned off the area to prevent public interference and to allow the necropsy team to work undisturbed. The public is advised to keep a safe distance due to potential health hazards from the decomposing carcass.
This incident follows a similar event in Germany earlier this year, when a humpback whale washed up on the island of Poel. That whale was also subjected to a necropsy, which revealed signs of malnutrition and possible disease.
