Three Teenagers Hospitalized After ATV Strikes Pole in Northern Alberta

Three teenagers sustained injuries early Monday morning when the all-terrain vehicle they were riding collided with a pole near Fort McMurray, Alberta. The Wood Buffalo RCMP confirmed that alcohol may have played a role in the crash, and none of the youths were wearing helmets at the time of the incident.

Incident Details: Time, Location, and Victims

The crash occurred on June 22 at approximately 12:41 a.m. in the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation area, just south of Fort McMurray. The ATV was carrying three youths aged between 11 and 16. Regional Emergency Services responded after receiving a call, and paramedics transported the injured teens to the Northern Regional Health Centre. Their injuries were not disclosed, but they were reported as non-life-threatening.

RCMP Investigation and Safety Concerns

RCMP stated that the cause of the collision remains under investigation, but “alcohol may have been a factor.” It is also unclear which teenager was operating the vehicle at the time. Police Issue Safety Reminders for Off-Highway Vehicle Users

In response to the crash, RCMP released safety guidelines for ATV, side-by-side, dirt bike, and other off-highway vehicle (OHV) riders. Recommendations include wearing a helmet and protective gear, carrying water, a communication device, and a first aid kit, ensuring the vehicle is in good condition, riding only on designated trails, and informing someone of your route and expected return time. Police also emphasized not operating vehicles while impaired by alcohol or drugs, riding at safe speeds, staying alert for other trail users and wildlife, and supervising young riders to ensure they use age-appropriate vehicles.
