A massive fire at a Medline medical supply warehouse in Tracy, California, continued to burn for a third day on Saturday, sending plumes of smoke into the air and causing unhealthy air quality in the region.
Firefighters Battle Blaze
The fire, which broke out on Thursday, has been challenging for firefighters due to the building's size and the materials stored inside. The warehouse, which stores medical supplies, including plastics and chemicals, has been burning intensely, making it difficult to contain.
Fire crews from multiple agencies have been working around the clock to extinguish the flames. No injuries have been reported, but officials are concerned about the potential for the fire to spread to nearby structures.
Air Quality Concerns
The smoke from the fire has led to unhealthy air quality in Tracy and surrounding areas. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District has issued an air quality advisory, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities.
People with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and children are particularly vulnerable. Officials recommend keeping windows and doors closed and using air purifiers if available.
Evacuations and Road Closures
As a precaution, nearby businesses and homes have been evacuated. Several roads in the area are closed, including a section of Interstate 205, causing traffic delays.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Medline, the company that owns the warehouse, has not yet released a statement.
