The nominees for the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday, and local productions and talent from Hollywood North received minimal recognition. Only one nominee from a Vancouver-filmed production appeared in the major award categories.
Sally Field Earns Sole Major Nod for Vancouver-Filmed Feature
Actress Sally Field was nominated in the lead actress, limited series, anthology or movie category for her role in the Vancouver-filmed Netflix feature Remarkably Bright Creatures. The multiple Oscar and Golden Globe-winning star's nomination stands as the only major category nod for a Hollywood North production. Based on the book by author Shelby Van Pelt, the film was directed by Olivia Newman and inspired in part by Agnetha, the Giant Pacific octopus housed at the Vancouver Aquarium, which also appears in the film. The movie was shot at locations around Deep Cove.
Taylor Swift Concert Film Earns Five Nominations
The Disney+ concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour – The Final Show received five nominations, including best variety special (pre-recorded), best directing for a variety special, outstanding picture editing for a variety special, outstanding sound mixing for a variety series or special, and outstanding technical direction and camerawork for a special. Shot on Dec. 8, 2024, at B.C. Place in Vancouver, the performance marked the end of the 149-show, 21-month global tour that generated a record-breaking US$2 billion in ticket sales. The film was followed by The End of an Era, a six-episode docuseries offering a behind-the-scenes look at Swift's life on tour.
Other Canadian-Filmed Nominations
Chase Infiniti was nominated for lead actress in a drama for the Ontario-filmed Hulu series The Testaments, which is available in Canada on Disney+. The animated series Rick and Morty, produced at Bardel Entertainment in Vancouver, was also nominated in the outstanding animated series category.
