The body of American singer-songwriter Oliver Tree has been returned to his home in California, a week after a helicopter crash over Rio de Janeiro killed him and five others. The crash occurred on June 14 in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, a neighborhood in southwest Rio, when Tree's helicopter collided with another aircraft.
Family confirms return and plans charity
In a social media post, Tree's family announced that he is now back in California, where he can finally rest. They thanked everyone who has shown love, support, and created tributes for Oliver. The family noted that the constant positivity is helping them through the difficult time.
The post also revealed that Tree had included a charity in his will, named “Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses.” The family stated they will ensure his wish comes true, spreading more joy, love, and art into the world.
Tree's career and final tour
Born Oliver Tree Nickell on June 29, 1993, in Santa Cruz, California, Tree rose to fame in 2016 after going viral for his signature mullet haircut, thin moustache, colorful fashion, and positive outlook. He was best known for pop and electronic dance hits like “Life Goes On,” “Miss You,” and “Alien Boy.”
Tree had just embarked on a world tour and performed in Sao Paulo on June 6. He was 32 years old at the time of the crash.
According to NBC News, the collision killed all six people aboard both helicopters. The incident remains under investigation by Brazilian authorities.
