The Riversdale Art Walk on Saturday afternoon celebrates art, creativity and community, with exhibitions, live art, performances and interactive experiences around the neighbourhood.
1. Experience Live Music on a Prairie Backdrop
The Outskirts Music Festival brings nine hours of genre-defying, boundary-pushing music to the festival grounds at Prairieland Park. Headliners Jelly Roll and Third Eye Blind are joined by local artists Brayden King, Wide Mouth Mason and Cooper Alan. Set on the edge of town, the outdoor, all-day event includes food trucks and cold drinks. It starts at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Learn more at outskirtsmusicfest.ca.
2. Explore a Musical Tribute
The immersive stage show 1999 The Ultimate Prince Experience pays tribute to the music of Prince. Multi-instrumentalist Dale Ray performs vocals, guitar and piano alongside an eight-piece band. They perform iconic hits that include Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette and Raspberry Beret, with full costuming and production. Taylor: A Tribute to the Eras of Taylor Swift Music is an unofficial tribute show. Josette performs with international band and dancers, playing some of the pop star’s biggest hits from every era of her career, complete with sparkly costumes. The concert is Saturday at the Broadway Theatre at 7 p.m. Learn more at broadwaytheatre.ca.
3. Support Community Pride Week
Saskatoon Pride Week wraps up with a weekend of events at Gather Local Market. Kick off the weekend on Friday with Music Grows Here, a ticketed concert limited to ages 19 and older. Local 2SLGBTQIA+ performers include Eekwol, Zann Foth, Vikki Minor, Aurora Bella, Anna Haverstock and Unproductive.
Family Day at Pride is Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m., in the festival site. It features an afternoon of family activities, including the Pride Slow Roll bike ride on the Meewasin Trail. The Velvet Garden Soiree is a ticketed event limited to ages 19 and older. It features a guest performance by RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Aja Miyake-Mugler and music by DJ Peachy Keif. Local drag performers include Malaysia Envy Grant, Amy Grant, Freya Grant, Peace Akintade, Annalynne Mohko, Stony Mac, King Hamlit, and Mia Berretta.
The annual Pride Market runs Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m., with more than 100 local 2SLGBTQIA+ artisans and businesses, and community support organizations. The Pride Parade is Sunday at noon, starting at Spadina Crescent and 24th Street East and ending at Gather. Support the community and see some of the city’s most iconic downtown buildings on the new route.
