The Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WSO) has announced four finalists for its music director position, marking a significant step in the search for the organization's next artistic leader. Each candidate will lead a concert during the upcoming season, allowing audiences and stakeholders to experience their artistic vision firsthand.
Finalists Announced
The four conductor finalists were selected from a pool of international applicants. They are:
- Maestro Elena Rossi – currently music director of the Trieste Philharmonic in Italy
- Conductor James Park – associate conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra
- Maestro David Chen – principal guest conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra
- Conductor Sarah Mitchell – music director of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra
Each finalist will conduct a subscription concert during the WSO's 2026-2027 season. The performances will be evaluated by a search committee, musicians, and audience feedback.
Community Engagement
The WSO is encouraging community members to attend the concerts and provide input through post-concert surveys. "We want our audience to be part of this important decision," said WSO Board Chair Margaret Thompson. "Their feedback will be instrumental in selecting the conductor who best aligns with our artistic goals and community values."
The search process began in early 2025 after the departure of former music director Robert Franz, who led the orchestra for 12 years. The WSO hopes to announce the new music director by spring 2027.
Concert Schedule
The finalist concerts are scheduled as follows:
- October 15, 2026 – Maestro Elena Rossi
- November 19, 2026 – Conductor James Park
- January 14, 2027 – Maestro David Chen
- February 18, 2027 – Conductor Sarah Mitchell
Tickets are available through the WSO website and box office. The orchestra encourages early booking as these concerts are expected to draw significant interest.
