Late-night television host Seth Meyers delivered a scathing critique on Thursday, targeting former President Donald Trump over his unfulfilled campaign pledge to reduce prices for Americans. Meyers lambasted the brazen dishonesty displayed by Trump and his supporters as economic costs continue to escalate amid the ongoing Iran war initiated under Trump's administration.
Meyers Condemns Shameless Lies on Rising Costs
"I really can't get over how brazen and shameless the lying is," Meyers declared during his monologue. "They explicitly promised to lower prices on day one. Now, they are instructing everyone to simply endure it and cease panicking over prices that are increasing because of a war they themselves started. When pressed about their plans to address this, they consistently deflect blame onto others."
Footage Reveals Vance's Contradictory Statements
The segment included a clip of Vice President JD Vance acknowledging the surge in gas prices, asserting that the administration was "doing everything we can to ensure that they stay lower" and labeling it a "temporary blip." However, Vance promptly shifted responsibility to former President Joe Biden, a move that left Meyers visibly exasperated.
"Are you still fixated on Joe Biden?" Meyers retorted. "Nobody even recalls his presidency anymore, including Biden himself. He appeared to forget midway through the debate."
Trump Administration Held Accountable by Voters
Meyers redirected focus to the Trump White House, emphasizing their accountability. "You are the individuals who vowed to bring prices down, yet you are now achieving the exact opposite. Blaming Biden is not a viable excuse. Even your own supporters hold you responsible for this failure," he asserted, underscoring the growing discontent among Trump's base.
The commentary highlighted a significant narrative shift within MAGA circles, as they attempt to rationalize the economic strain caused by the Iran conflict, despite Trump's initial guarantees of immediate relief. Meyers' analysis pointed to a broader pattern of evasion and scapegoating, resonating with viewers concerned about persistent inflation and geopolitical instability.
