A Calgary man has died following a motorcycle collision near Priddis, Alberta, leaving behind his common-law partner and their young daughter. Cory Ryan, 50, was involved in a crash on May 25, 2026, that has devastated his family.
Crash Details
According to RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney, Ryan was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Highway 22 at approximately 3:53 p.m. when he collided with a westbound white Volvo at the intersection of Priddis Green Drive in Foothills County. The Volvo was turning left at the time of the collision. Despite wearing a helmet and receiving immediate life-saving efforts from an off-duty firefighter who witnessed the incident, Ryan succumbed to his injuries at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Investigation Underway
A collision reconstructionist attended the scene, and the Diamond Valley RCMP is leading the investigation. As of now, no charges have been laid. Ryan's partner, Kira Shannon, expressed frustration over the lack of information and a delayed collision report due to the responding officer taking a week off work. She also noted the absence of a public media release about the crash, leaving her feeling ignored and searching for answers.
Remembering Cory Ryan
Ryan and Shannon were set to celebrate their 13th anniversary in July. Instead, Shannon is planning his funeral. Ryan leaves behind Shannon and their 11-year-old daughter, Aurora. Shannon described Ryan as an outdoorsman who loved camping and fishing, and who shared a passion for music with his daughter. "He had the best voice I've ever heard," she said.
Shannon emphasized the importance of remembering Ryan. "I want people to know that he mattered. He mattered to me and he mattered to his daughter, and he mattered to our family," she stated.
Community Support
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family, raising over $1,800 so far. The funds will help cover funeral costs and provide for Aurora's future.
