The Edmonton Jewish Film Festival (EJFF) celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, offering a 10-day program featuring six in-person screenings and three online events. The festival runs from Sunday, May 5, to Monday, May 13, at the Capitol Theatre in Fort Edmonton Park.
Opening Night and Highlights
The festival opens with the Dardenne brothers-produced road-trip comedy Bella, a heartwarming tale about rescuing a dove, screening at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. On Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m., the documentary Soul of a Nation explores recent historical events through interviews with Nobel laureates, Muslim leaders, peace activists, and other prominent figures.
Family-Friendly Events
On Mother's Day, Sunday, May 12, a free screening of Shrek will take place at 11 a.m. Festival organizer Tammy Vineberg noted, "I know Shrek isn't a typical Jewish movie, but it's a chance to have the community's families get together in a fun space." Later that evening, the documentary Labors of Love screens at 7 p.m.
Additional Screenings
On Monday, May 13, the festival presents the animation Among Neighbors and closes with Matchmaking 2.

Edmonton Mountain Bike Films Fest
In other festival news, the fourth annual Edmonton Mountain Bike Films Fest returns with mountain-bike-themed films, vendors, creators, ambassadors, games, and prizes. The event features a party atmosphere with alcohol service; attendees 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds support local bike infrastructure. Helmets and spandex are optional!
