The Toronto District School Board has officially appointed a new chief executive officer. On Friday, the TDSB announced that Camillo Cipriano will take on the role of CEO, effective June 8. In addition, the school board revealed that Stacey Zucker has been named the new Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer. Zucker previously served as the Interim Director of Education since late 2025.
Leadership Change at TDSB
TDSB supervisor Rohit Gupta expressed confidence in the new appointments. "We are pleased to welcome Camillo to this new CEO role and the experience he brings to the Toronto District School Board at an important time for our system," Gupta said in a media release. "His experience leading organizational improvement, strengthening financial sustainability, and improving student outcomes will help support TDSB's long-term success."
Background of Camillo Cipriano
Cipriano comes to the TDSB from the Niagara Catholic District School Board, where he currently serves as CEO and Director of Education. He will step down from those positions on June 5, according to local reports. Cipriano has been with the NCDSB since 2020 and previously held senior leadership roles within the Halton Catholic District School Board. His career in public education spans nearly 30 years.
He holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University and a Master of Education from Niagara University Graduate School. In a statement, Cipriano said, "I am honoured to join the Toronto District School Board at such an important time for public education. TDSB has a long-standing commitment to student success and achievement, and I am excited to build on that foundation with all the staff, students, families, and communities that make the TDSB so unique."
Provincial Takeover Context
Notably, Toronto trustees had no involvement in Cipriano's hiring. This is because the Ontario government took control of multiple school boards last year, citing financial mismanagement and growing deficits. The provincial decision removed the usual hiring authority from local trustees.
Stacey Zucker, the new CFO and COO, brings extensive experience from her interim role and previous positions within the board. Her appointment is expected to strengthen financial oversight and operational efficiency at the TDSB.
