Burnaby police are investigating after a car was found stuck on top of a roadside barrier on Hastings Street near Delta Avenue following a crash on July 9, 2026. The vehicle's occupants fled on foot before officers arrived, according to authorities.
Incident Details
The crash occurred on Hastings Street, a major thoroughfare in Burnaby, B.C. Police responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision and discovered the car perched on the median barrier. No injuries were reported at the scene, but the driver and any passengers had already left the vehicle and disappeared.
“The occupants fled on foot prior to police arrival,” said a Burnaby RCMP spokesperson. “We are seeking witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.”
Investigation Ongoing
Police have not released a description of the suspects or details about the vehicle. The incident is being treated as a hit-and-run, though it is unclear if other vehicles were involved. Hastings Street was partially closed for investigation but has since reopened.
According to police, the car mounted the median, which is designed to separate lanes of traffic. The barrier appears to have prevented the vehicle from crossing into oncoming traffic, potentially averting a more serious collision.
Public Appeal
Burnaby RCMP are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the fleeing occupants to contact them. “We are particularly interested in dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident,” the spokesperson added.
