The moving tribute features 1,300 Canadian flags planted meticulously across the school grounds, each one representing a Canadian soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan.
A Lesson in Sacrifice and Service
What began as a classroom assignment evolved into something far more profound. Under the guidance of business teacher Joe Groot, students in the entrepreneurship class embraced their annual poppy campaign with renewed purpose. Rather than simply distributing poppies, they sought to create a visual representation of the staggering cost of war that would resonate throughout their community.
"They wanted the greater good," Groot explained, emphasizing how his students took ownership of the project. "They wanted to make sure that the entire school understood the sacrifice."
