A-40 East Closed This Weekend for Paving Work

Montreal's Metropolitan Expressway (A-40) East will be fully closed this weekend for paving work, according to a statement from the Quebec Ministry of Transport. The closure will begin at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 10, and is expected to last until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Closure Details and Detours

The eastbound lanes of A-40 will be shut down between the Décarie Interchange (Exit 70) and the Anjou Interchange (Exit 91). The ministry advises motorists to use alternative routes, such as Route 136 or Boulevard Métropolitain, to bypass the construction zone. Detour signs will be in place.

This closure is part of a larger rehabilitation project on the Metropolitan Expressway, which carries over 100,000 vehicles daily. The work includes resurfacing and repairs to the aging infrastructure. According to Transport Quebec spokesperson Marie-Claude Dupuis, “This weekend closure is essential to ensure the safety and longevity of the highway. We thank drivers for their patience.”

Traffic Impact and Alternatives

Commuters are urged to plan ahead, use public transit, or work from home if possible. The STM will increase bus service on parallel routes to accommodate displaced drivers. Real-time traffic updates will be available via Quebec 511.

Similar closures are expected on subsequent weekends through August, as the project continues. The total cost of the rehabilitation is estimated at $150 million, with completion slated for fall 2026.
