Peavey Mart Returns to Saskatchewan: Two Stores to Reopen in 2026
Peavey Mart Reopening Two Saskatchewan Locations

The iconic Canadian hardware chain Peavey Mart is set to make a significant return to Saskatchewan after a widespread closure last year. Under new ownership, the company has announced plans to reopen two of its former locations in the province, marking a pivotal step in its national comeback strategy.

The Comeback Plan: Assiniboia and Yorkton Lead the Way

In an official news release, Peavey Mart confirmed it will be resurrecting its stores in Assiniboia and Yorkton in March 2026. This move is part of a broader revival plan that began in Alberta, where four locations were successfully relaunched in December of last year. An additional store is also slated to open in Red Deer, Alberta, this coming spring.

Meagan Parisian, the leader of marketing and e-commerce for Peavey Mart, explained the reasoning behind selecting these specific communities. "The initial store opening plan included an eventual reopening of stores in Saskatchewan," Parisian stated. "The locations that were chosen by the ownership group are reflective of a number of factors these communities hold, including the strength of the stores in these communities, an ease of access to the previously held storefronts, as well as how quickly we could expedite hiring and launch operations."

From Closure to Revival

The road to this reopening follows a turbulent period for the retailer. Peavey Mart, a chain that first opened its doors in 1967, shut down all 90 of its locations across Canada in 2025 after filing for creditor protection the previous January. The brand's assets were later acquired by a numbered company in April, setting the stage for its planned return.

The comeback was officially announced in October, with a focus on a phased, small-scale rollout in Western Canada. The two new Saskatchewan stores, along with the Alberta locations, will bring the total number of revived Peavey Mart outlets to seven.

Future Uncertainty and Hiring Begins

While the news is positive for Assiniboia and Yorkton, the fate of other former Saskatchewan locations remains unclear. The company's release explicitly noted that no decisions or reopening timelines have been made for any other locations. Prior to its closure, Peavey Mart operated 12 stores in the province, including in major centres like Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, and Swift Current.

In preparation for the 2026 openings, Peavey Mart has already begun the hiring process. Job postings for retail supervisors and customer service associates are currently listed on the company's website, signaling the start of operational rebuilding in the selected communities.

The return of Peavey Mart to Saskatchewan represents a notable development in the province's retail landscape, offering renewed access to the farm, home, and hardware products for which the chain is known. Residents in Assiniboia and Yorkton will be the first to welcome back the familiar brand next spring.
