Ten individuals, the majority hailing from the Calgary region, are sharing a $100,000 prize from a Lotto Max draw, according to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). The winning ticket was purchased as a group, and the members are now planning how to use their windfall.
Details of the win
The WCLC confirmed that the ticket matched the winning numbers in the July 8 Lotto Max draw. Each of the ten winners will receive $10,000 before taxes. The group includes friends, family members, and coworkers from the Calgary area. One winner, who wished to remain anonymous, said the group is “still in shock” and plans to celebrate together.
“It’s a dream come true for all of us,” the winner said in a statement released by the WCLC. “We’ve been playing together for years, and it’s finally paid off.”
WCLC encourages responsible play
The WCLC reminds players to play responsibly and to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchase. The odds of winning the $100,000 prize are approximately 1 in 2.3 million for a single $5 ticket. This win marks one of several recent lottery successes in Alberta, including a $5 million win by an Alberta woman earlier this week.
Lottery proceeds in Alberta fund community programs and initiatives through the Alberta Lottery Fund, which supports health, education, and social services across the province.
