The Ontario government has opened 67 new campsites at three of the province's most popular provincial parks: MacGregor Point, Killarney, and Driftwood. This initiative is part of a nearly $60 million, multi-year investment aimed at expanding Ontario Parks, marking the largest campground expansion in more than half a century.
New Campsites at Three Parks
Specifically, MacGregor Point Provincial Park now offers 17 new campsites, Killarney Provincial Park has 25 new sites, and Driftwood Provincial Park features 25 new electrical campsites. These additions will provide nearly 5,000 new reservable camping nights just in time for peak camping season.
Reservations Now Open
Reservations for these new campsites began Monday at 7 a.m. for arrivals starting June 26, available through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service. This is the first phase of a broader $60-million campsite expansion and modernization effort that plans to add up to 300 new campsites and upgrade 800 existing sites with electrical service.
Future Plans and Upgrades
Future developments include the creation of 65 new campsites at Bon Echo and Presqu'ile Provincial Parks in time for the 2027 summer season. Additionally, Ontario Parks has completed electrical upgrades at 285 campsites across several parks, including Sandbanks, Arrowhead, and Turkey Point. These upgraded sites are currently available for reservation, with arrival dates varying by park and site.
Collectively, the new sites will add 4,891 reservable camping nights between June 26 and Labour Day, increasing opportunities for families to enjoy the outdoors this summer. Last year, Ontario Parks set a record with nearly 14 million park visits.
Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, Todd McCarthy, emphasized the importance of camping for families and the province's commitment to creating more opportunities for outdoor recreation. “Camping is at the heart of summer for so many families across this province, and an Ontario Parks getaway is second to none,” he said in a statement. “By opening 67 new sites — with hundreds more to come — we are creating more opportunities for families to enjoy Ontario’s incredible outdoors, supporting local businesses and helping people create lifelong memories to share with loved ones.”
