Georgia Eastwood, a 17-year-old from New Brunswick, has found her calling after a summer job ignited her dream of becoming a head chef. Over the past two and a half years, she has honed her culinary skills at a local restaurant, where her Wagyu beef burger has become a hit. Now, the teen is preparing to travel to Toronto in a few weeks to compete against other young chefs from across the country.
From Summer Job to Culinary Passion
Eastwood's journey began when she took a summer job at a restaurant, initially just to earn some extra money. However, she quickly fell in love with the kitchen environment and the art of cooking. Encouraged by her mentors, she began experimenting with recipes and developing her own signature dishes. Her Wagyu beef burger, featuring premium beef and a unique blend of spices, has become a standout item on the menu.
Competing on a National Stage
Her talent did not go unnoticed. Eastwood was selected to represent New Brunswick in a national culinary competition for young chefs, set to take place in Toronto. The event will bring together aspiring chefs from every province, each showcasing their skills in a series of challenges. Eastwood says she is both nervous and excited but feels prepared thanks to the hands-on experience she has gained.
"I never thought a summer job would lead me here," Eastwood said. "But I've learned so much, and I can't wait to see what the competition brings."
Support from Family and Community
Her family has been a pillar of support. Her parents, who initially encouraged her to take the summer job, are proud of her achievements. The local community has also rallied behind her, with many patrons of the restaurant cheering her on. Her head chef, who has mentored her throughout, believes she has the potential to go far in the culinary world.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Eastwood hopes to attend a top culinary school and eventually become an executive chef at a fine-dining restaurant. She advises other teens to pursue what they love. "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life," she said. Her story is a testament to how a simple summer job can spark a lifelong passion.
