A man who was about to become a father for the second time has tragically lost his life after being gored at a bull-running festival in Spain. Santiago Barrero San Roman, a 33-year-old cattle breeder, was participating in the San Marcos festival in Jaen when the incident occurred.
Deadly Attack on 'Street of Hell'
During the event, a bull threw San Roman into the air and attacked him with its horns multiple times on Calle Palomares, a street locally known as the 'street of hell' due to the bull runs that take place there. Horrific video footage shared on social media shows San Roman pinned against a fence as fellow revellers attempted to distract the animal, but their efforts were in vain.
San Roman sustained severe injuries to his abdomen, chest, and groin. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his wounds, according to Spanish outlet El Haberler.
Family Left Behind
San Roman leaves behind his wife, Vanesa, and their young daughter. The couple was expecting a second daughter. Vanesa took to Instagram on Sunday to express her grief, describing how her husband was 'unfairly' taken from them too soon.
'My love I don't even know how I can have the strength to write this, you are the most beautiful thing that has happened to me in my life, from when I wake up until I lay down, my first thought and last, you are everything to me, for our daughters,' the grieving widow wrote in a lengthy caption accompanying several photos of the couple.
She continued, 'I hope you give me strength and accompany me every day of my life in every step I take, because I swear I will not stop thinking about you, in our dreams, in our plans, in our life together.'
The photographer, whose Instagram feed is filled with images and videos of cattle and bull-running festivals, added: 'I'm broken for life because life has taken you from me unfairly and too soon because you had your whole life ahead of you with everything you had achieved.'
'Your girls, your mother, your best friends, and everyone in the bullfighting world who truly loved you are devastated, but we will always keep you in our hearts, my love.'
