CoreWeave Secures Anthropic as Client, Now Serves All Top Four AI Giants
CoreWeave Now Serves All Top Four AI Giants Including Anthropic

In a significant move within the artificial intelligence sector, Anthropic PBC has entered into a multiyear agreement to leverage data center capacity from CoreWeave Inc. This partnership aims to address the surging demand for Anthropic's AI services, particularly for its Claude models, as announced by CoreWeave in a statement on Friday.

Expanding AI Infrastructure

The deal will enable Anthropic to build and deploy its Claude AI models more effectively, utilizing a variety of Nvidia Corp. chip architectures across data centers located in the United States. Michael Intrator, CEO of CoreWeave, highlighted this in an interview, though financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed by the companies.

CoreWeave, often categorized as a "neocloud" provider, specializes in high-performance cloud computing tailored for AI workloads. This niche has attracted major players like Microsoft Corp., who seek rapid enhancements in AI product development capabilities.

Market Impact and Financial Details

Following the announcement, CoreWeave's shares experienced a notable surge, jumping as much as 15 percent to US$105.90 in New York trading. This marked the largest intraday gain in over two months, up from a closing price of US$92 on Thursday.

Anthropic, valued at approximately US$380 billion including recent fundraising of US$30 billion, has been a key player in the AI boom alongside OpenAI. The company has faced challenges in maintaining service availability due to what it describes as "unprecedented demand," prompting investments in computing capacity, including a US$50 billion commitment toward new AI data centers in the U.S.

Strategic Partnerships and Energy Commitments

Earlier in the week, Anthropic revealed a partnership with Broadcom Inc. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google to secure 3.5 gigawatts of energy, equivalent to powering about 750,000 U.S. households at any given time. This aligns with broader efforts to support AI infrastructure with sustainable power sources.

CoreWeave itself has been expanding its footprint, with 43 active data centers and over three gigawatts of power contracted for server farms as of February. The company recently announced a US$21 billion commitment from Meta Platforms Inc. to purchase its computing power, further solidifying its position in the market.

Industry Dominance

With this new agreement, CoreWeave now boasts all four of the largest AI model makers—Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta—as its customers. This development underscores the growing reliance on specialized cloud providers to fuel the competitive AI landscape, as companies race to scale their technologies and meet user demands efficiently.
