AMD Expands AI Leadership with New Processors at CES 2026

At the CES 2026 technology showcase in Las Vegas, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) made a significant series of announcements aimed at solidifying its position in the artificial intelligence computing space. The chipmaker unveiled a new generation of processors and software designed to bring advanced AI capabilities to consumer, commercial, and developer systems.

New Processors Power the AI PC Revolution

The centerpiece of AMD's CES presentation was the introduction of the Ryzen AI 400 Series and Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series processors. These new chips are engineered for the latest Copilot+ PCs, delivering up to an impressive 60 NPU TOPS (Trillions of Operations Per Second) for accelerating on-device AI tasks. This performance is targeted at enhancing AI experiences across both consumer laptops and commercial business systems that require modern security and manageability features.

For users demanding maximum performance in sleek designs, AMD also launched new Ryzen AI Max+ SKUs. These processors are destined for ultra-thin notebooks, compact workstations, and small form-factor desktops, catering to creators, gamers, and AI developers who need high-performance graphics and AI acceleration in a portable package.

Empowering Developers and Gamers

In a move to foster innovation at the edge of the network, AMD unveiled the Ryzen AI Halo. This product is the company's first branded AI developer platform, designed as a powerful yet easy-to-use mini-PC. It brings Ryzen AI Max+ performance to developers in an out-of-the-box format, aiming to accelerate the creation and deployment of AI applications directly on local devices.

Gamers received exciting news with the announcement of the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor. AMD claims this chip, built on the new "Zen 5" architecture and enhanced with AMD 3D V-Cache technology, is the fastest gaming processor on the market. It succeeds the previous champion, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, by offering a 400MHz higher boost clock for superior gaming performance.

Software Ecosystem and Market Growth

Recognizing that hardware is only part of the solution, AMD also detailed advancements in its software stack. The company announced AMD ROCm 7.2, the latest version of its open software platform. This update delivers seamless support for the new Ryzen AI 400 Series processors on both Windows and Linux operating systems and includes integration into the popular ComfyUI workflow tool for AI image generation.

Furthermore, AMD highlighted strong market momentum, citing significant year-over-year growth in adoption by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The company expects this trend to continue throughout 2026, with more systems featuring Ryzen AI processors launching across consumer, commercial, and gaming segments.

Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of the Computing and Graphics Group at AMD, emphasized the company's comprehensive strategy. "The PC is being redefined by AI, and AMD is leading that transformation," said Huynh. He pointed to AMD's full-stack approach—encompassing high-performance computing, leading AI capabilities, immersive graphics, and a growing software ecosystem—as key to enabling smarter and more efficient experiences for all users.
