Morgan Rielly, the longest-serving member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, appears ready to move on. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the defenceman has provided a list of four teams for which he would waive his no-trade clause.
Rielly's Trade Request
Dreger reported late Tuesday that Rielly, through agent J.P. Barry, submitted the list to the Maple Leafs. All four teams are in the Western Conference, aligning with Rielly's British Columbia roots. Other teams could be added depending on progress in talks between general manager John Chayka and the initial list.
Declining Performance
Rielly's future in Toronto has been in doubt following declining offensive numbers. He recorded 36 points last season, bringing his career total to 549 since being drafted in the first round in 2012. However, he was a minus-16 in 2025-26, his worst plus-minus in nearly a decade, and struggled on the power play, where he was often replaced as the quarterback.
Leafs Add Defensive Depth
The Maple Leafs have recently acquired two other defencemen: Darren Raddysh via a sign-and-trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and puck-moving Emil Andrae in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. These moves suggest the team is preparing for Rielly's potential departure.
