The Toronto Maple Leafs are finalizing a sign-and-trade deal to acquire defenseman Darren Raddysh from the Tampa Bay Lightning, with an eight-year contract extension in place, according to league sources.

Raddysh, 29, is expected to sign a long-term deal with the Maple Leafs worth an average annual value of approximately $6.5 million. The Lightning will receive a package including a first-round pick and a prospect in return.
The move addresses Toronto's need for a right-shot defenseman who can contribute offensively and play top-four minutes. Raddysh has recorded 38 points in 82 games this season for Tampa Bay.
Impact on both teams
For the Maple Leafs, adding Raddysh bolsters a blue line that struggled at times during the playoffs. His puck-moving ability and power-play experience make him a valuable addition alongside Morgan Rielly.
The Lightning, facing salary cap constraints, gain assets and flexibility. Trading Raddysh allows them to re-sign key forwards and manage their cap structure.
Raddysh, an undrafted free agent signed by Tampa Bay in 2021, developed into a reliable defenseman. He posted career highs in goals and assists this season.
The trade is expected to become official on July 1 when the NHL's new league year begins.
