CF Montréal Announces Strategic Player Acquisitions Ahead of 2026 MLS Season

In a significant roster shake-up, CF Montréal has officially confirmed the acquisition of two promising international talents: Swiss forward Noah Streit and Venezuelan midfielder Wikelman "Wiki" Carmona. The announcement, made on Monday, signals the club's intent to bolster its offensive capabilities as it prepares for the upcoming Major League Soccer campaign.

Details of the Noah Streit Transfer from FC Basel

The 20-year-old Swiss striker Noah Streit joins CF Montréal via transfer from Swiss Super League powerhouse FC Basel 1893. Streit has committed to a substantial four-year contract with the Canadian club, which includes an option for an additional fifth season. Notably, FC Basel will retain a percentage of any future transfer fee involving the young forward, a common arrangement in modern football transactions.

Streit, who hails from Biel, Switzerland, spent the 2025-26 season on loan with Neuchâtel Xamax FCS in the Swiss Challenge League. During his loan spell, he demonstrated his scoring ability with two goals in 18 league appearances and added another goal in three Swiss Cup matches, showcasing his potential as a developing attacking threat.

Wiki Carmona Trade with New York Red Bulls

In a separate but related move, CF Montréal has acquired 22-year-old Venezuelan midfielder Wiki Carmona through a trade with the New York Red Bulls. The transaction sees Canadian defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty moving in the opposite direction to New York. Both clubs have negotiated to retain percentages of future transfer fees for their respective departing players.

Additionally, CF Montréal will maintain a portion of Marshall-Rutty's 2026 salary obligations. Carmona brings valuable MLS experience to Montreal, having recorded five goals and seven assists across 102 league appearances over five seasons with the Red Bulls.

CF Montréal's Preseason Preparations and Schedule

The acquisitions come as CF Montréal continues its preseason training camp in Florida, where the team is scheduled to play friendly matches on Tuesday and Saturday. The club will kick off its 2026 MLS season on February 21 with an away match in San Diego.

Montréal fans will need to exercise patience, as the team faces a challenging start to the season with six consecutive road games before finally hosting its home opener on April 11 against the Philadelphia Union at Stade Saputo.

These strategic moves represent CF Montréal's ongoing efforts to build a competitive roster capable of challenging in the Eastern Conference. The addition of Streit's European experience and Carmona's proven MLS credentials provides manager Laurent Courtois with enhanced attacking options as the club aims to improve upon its previous season's performance.
