Calgary Wild FC signs goalkeeper Katelin Talbert

The Calgary Wild FC has made a significant move to solidify its defense, announcing the signing of accomplished goalkeeper Katelin Talbert for the upcoming 2026 Northern Super League (NSL) campaign. The announcement was made on January 15, 2026.

A Wealth of International Experience

Hailing from Sacramento, California, Talbert brings a formidable and fearless goalkeeping style to the Canadian club, backed by an impressive resume spanning multiple continents. Her professional journey includes stints with top European clubs such as SL Benfica in Portugal, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa in England, as well as FH in Iceland and Djugårdens IF in Sweden.

This international pedigree is complemented by valuable UEFA Champions League experience and a proven track record of success. Her accolades include being voted the Best Goalkeeper of Portugal’s Liga BPI in 2021-22 by the Players Union and winning multiple league titles during her time with Benfica.

From College Standout to Professional Powerhouse

Talbert's soccer journey began at the age of four and flourished at the collegiate level. She was a standout performer for the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks in NCAA Division II, earning multiple All-Conference honors. She balanced her athletic career with academics, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Conservation and Management.

Known affectionately as the “Swag Goalie,” Talbert cites one of her career highlights as saving a crucial penalty for Benfica in front of a roaring crowd of over 14,000 fans.

Building a New Legacy in Calgary

"I’m incredibly excited to join Wild FC," Talbert stated. "The opportunity to be part of a new professional league in Canada and contribute to building a strong, competitive team really aligns with my love for growth, competition, and inspiring the next generation of women in soccer."

Wild FC Head Coach Lydia Bedford praised the new signing, saying, "Katelin’s journey is a testament to dedication and resilience. We’re proud to welcome her to the Wild FC family, where her passion for the game and leadership qualities will have a lasting impact on and off the field."

Off the pitch, Talbert is an advocate for mental health, wildlife conservation, and empowering women in sport. Her personal interests include drawing, hiking, photography, and exploring coffee shops.

Anchoring the Team for the Future

Talbert's signing marks the first major roster addition for Wild FC following several off-season departures. The team recently saw the exit of goalkeeper Stephanie Bukovec, forwards Christie Gray, Danielle Steer, and Madison Wilson, and defenders Ally Green and Mijke Roelfsema.

Her arrival is a key piece in the club's rebuilding efforts as the Northern Super League prepares to kick off its second season in the spring of 2026. Talbert is expected to anchor the goal and provide veteran leadership as Calgary Wild FC aims to establish itself as a competitive force in the burgeoning Canadian professional women's soccer landscape.
