Bombers QB Collaros to miss game against Argos due to injury
Bombers QB Collaros to miss game against Argos

Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros will not play in the team's upcoming home game against the Toronto Argonauts, the team confirmed on Thursday. Collaros, 37, sustained an undisclosed injury during practice earlier this week and has been ruled out for the contest at Princess Auto Stadium.

Impact on Bombers' lineup

Head coach Mike O'Shea announced the decision after consulting with medical staff. "Zach is a competitor, but we have to be smart about this," O'Shea said. "We have full confidence in the next man up." Backup quarterback Dakota Prukop is expected to start in Collaros' place. Prukop, 31, has limited CFL experience, having appeared in only 12 games over the past three seasons, with two starts. The Bombers also elevated rookie QB Tre Ford from the practice roster as insurance.

Collaros has been a key piece of Winnipeg's offense this season, throwing for 2,847 yards and 18 touchdowns with a 68.4% completion rate across 12 games. His absence leaves a significant gap in the Bombers' passing attack as they prepare to face a tough Argos defense that ranks second in the league in interceptions (13).

Next man up mentality

Prukop, who joined the Bombers in 2024 after stints with the Edmonton Elks and the NFL's New Orleans Saints, expressed readiness for the challenge. "I've been preparing for this moment all season," he said. "The guys around me make it easy. We have a great game plan, and I'm excited to execute." The Bombers (8-4) currently sit second in the West Division, while the Argos (7-5) are atop the East. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday.
