A skydiving demonstration at Virginia Tech's annual spring football game took a terrifying turn on Saturday when one of the participants veered off course and collided with the massive scoreboard inside Lane Stadium. The incident, which occurred before the scheduled kickoff, prompted an immediate emergency response from local authorities and stadium personnel.
Emergency Extraction from Precarious Position
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the skydiver became entangled in the structural framework of the scoreboard, approximately 80 feet above the stadium seating. Blacksburg Fire Department crews quickly mobilized, utilizing specialized aerial equipment to reach the individual who was suspended in a precarious position. The rescue operation lasted approximately 45 minutes as first responders carefully extracted the skydiver from the wreckage of parachute lines and scoreboard components.
